NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety

This course provides the underpinning knowledge to enable Health and Safety duties in the workplace to be undertaken more effectively. It is relevant for managers, supervisors and employee representatives with health and safety responsibilities related to the construction industry. This comprehensive course, gives an excellent grounding in the fundamentals of occupational Safety and Health Management.

The qualification comprises of three separately assessed units:

Management of Health & Safety (NGC1)

The following elements are covered:

Foundation in Health and Safety, Plan, Do, Check, Act

Managing and Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities (NCC1)

The following elements are covered:

Construction Law and Management Construction Site Hazards Movement of People and Vehicles Manual and Mechanical Handling Work Equipment Hazards Electrical Hazards Fire Hazards Chemical and Biological Hazards Physical and Psychological Hazards Working at Height Excavation and Confined Spaces Demolition Hazards Health & Safety Practical Application (NCC2)

Duration and Attendance

The course is currently offered on a day-release basis. The day release mode of study is one day a week over a period of fifteen weeks.

The exams are held on a day out with these classroom days. Examinations are held at the course providers premises, the practical element is carried out by the student at their own work premises.

The examinations are held 4 times per year in March, June, September and December. The exams comprise of two 2-hour written papers and a practical assessment that involves carrying out an inspection of a construction site and the preparation of a management report.

Support is provided throughout the course in assessment, study and examination techniques.

Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements although candidates are required to write a short report, requiring a degree of written communication skills.
