IPC Standards

Accepted worldwide as the key manufacturing standards for the printed board and electronics manufacturing industries, IPC Standards are associated with nearly every stage of the electronic product development cycle.

Fife College are licensed and approved to deliver training, testing and certification associated with the following Standards:

  • IPC J-STD-001, Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies
  • IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies
  • IPC-7711/7721, Rework, Modification and Repair of Electronic Assemblies

Certified IPC Specialist (CIS)

CIS training focuses on the knowledge and/or hand skills required of the ‘Application Specialist’ in charged with working in adherence to the relevant Standard.

For those Standards concerned with inspection and acceptance; IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620, the ‘Application Specialist’ may be a line worker, operator, inspector or buyer responsible for inspecting and/or deciding whether an electronic product should be accepted or rejected.

For IPC J-STD-001, training is aimed at equipping delegates with the knowledge and skills required to produce high-quality soldered interconnections.

Training in relation to Standard, IPC-7711/7721 is concerned with the knowledge and skills necessary to adequately restore the function of boards and assemblies.

Course fees cover all classroom and/or laboratory training, associated exams, and IPC certification for successful candidates.

Certified IPC Trainer (CIT)

Fife College’s Master IPC Trainer will deliver CIT training to those individuals who will be responsible for delivering the CIS training for their company. The training expands upon the content of the relevant CIS course to ensure the qualified CIT will have all the necessary information to adequately train their colleagues.

Ideal candidates on the CIT courses in respect of IPC-A-610 and IPC/WHMA-A-620 would be trainers, quality supervisors, engineering and manufacturing supervisors, extremely knowledgeable about electronic assembly.

For Standards IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-7711/7721 with practical content, the CIT candidates would be required to possess good hand-soldering skills and ideally have experience in teaching and assembly rework procedures.

Course fees cover all classroom training, associated exams; hands-on training and skills demonstration evaluation, and a certificate of completion. In addition, and upon successful completion, candidates will be provided with comprehensive IPC training and guidance materials for preparing and delivering CIS training.
