COURSE INFORMATION

This MA Food and Drink Operations SVQ 3 is ideal for those working in food and drink manufacturing in a team leader or supervisory role or those that will be working in that role in the near future. Developed by the National Skills Academy for Food and Drink and industry it provides opportunities for those working to gain industry related qualifications. Made up of three main parts – SVQ Food and Drink Operations SCQF level 6, Core Skills and Enhancements. The qualification enables employees to develop in their role. The course is a partnership with the employer, employee and College. An assessor/trainer throughout the course supports employees to achieve. 

  • It is expected that apprentices following this framework will take between 14 months and 18 months complete. 
  • Each apprentice is required to achieve the following mandatory units : 
    • Monitor Food Safety at Critical Control Points in Food and Drink Operations 
    • Monitor Health, Safety and Environmental Systems in Food Manufacture 
    • Monitor and Maintain Product Quality in Food and Drink Operations 
  • There is a range of optional units that can be selected depending on the type of food and drink business and the job role of MA. A skills scan will be undertaken with assessor/trainer prior to MA commencing. 
  • Each apprentice is required to achieve the following Core Skills: 
    • Communication 
    • Working with others 
    • Problem Solving 
    • Information and Communication Technology 
    • Numeracy 
  • All Core Skills need to be separately certificated at level SCQF 5 or above. 
  • There are different enhancements depending on the pathway the apprentice is following as set out below: 
  • Apprentices must achieve two additional outcomes. An additional outcome should be a relevant short course at a suitable level, with is a minimum of 10 learning hours. This may be industry-specific or of broader relevance to the learner or business, and must be agreed by the learner, employer and training provider at the beginning of the Modern Apprenticeship programme and shown in the Training Plan.

    • Food Hygiene Intermediate Certificate 
    • Additional SVQ units from any qualifications at SCQF L6 or above (e.g., Management or Team Leading) 
    • SVQ Food and Drink Operations Principles/Knowledge units at SCQF L5 or above 
    • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) (Intermediate Level) 
    • Health and Safety Certificate
    • ESOL: Work and Study Related Contexts (Access 3/Intermediate 1) 
    • ECDL/PC Passport 
    • Food Safety for Manufacturing Award
    • Coaching Certificate
    • Manual Handling Certificate 
  • HNC Management
