COURSE INFORMATION

Up to 80% of people suffer from back pain or injury at sometime as a result of poor manual handling. The course focuses on reducing risk, with practical work and a basic understanding of movement theory and can be biased to loads that are objects or people.

This course provides an understanding of human kinetics (lifting techniques). For the individual this will provide the knowledge to safely move loads with reduced risk of stress, strain or injury. For employers this will help to meet the requirements of the current legislation, and to reduce absence, and costs, due to injury.

This course uses practical demonstration simulating the working environment, video presentations and supplementary theory. The course takes half a day to complete and is available throughout the year within college premises or in the workplace, as requested by employers.

  • This course is for anyone who manually lifts, lowers, pushes, pulls, carries or otherwise moves, holds or restrains loads, and can be biased to loads that are objects or people. There is no requirement to provide evidence of other qualifications or skills

Taken as part of a development course, this forms an essential element of supervisory training in Health and Safety

  • Individuals whose employment involves manual lifting, transport of heavy or awkward loads, or the supervision of others undertaking such a task, would find this an ideal course. This course isn’t designed to progress your career however it is intended to prevent a third of all over-three-day injuries reported each year to HSE and local authorities which are caused by manual handling
