COURSE INFORMATION

Up to 80% of people suffer from back pain or injury at some time as a result of poor manual handling. The course focuses on reducing risk, with practical work and a basic understanding of movement theory and can be biased to loads that are objects or people.

This course provides an understanding of human kinetics (lifting techniques). For the individual, this will provide the knowledge to safely move loads with reduced risk of stress, strain or injury. For employers, this will help to meet the requirements of the current legislation, and to reduce absence, and costs, due to injury.

This course uses practical demonstration simulating the working environment, video presentations, and supplementary theory. It takes half a day to complete and is available throughout the year within Fife College premises or in the workplace, as requested by employers.

The following areas are covered:

  • The cost of accidents
  • Risk reduction principles
  • The base movement
  • Advanced principles
  • Practical assessment
  • Short course (½ day)
  • Rosyth Campus, Wood Road, Rosyth Business Park, Rosyth, KY11 2EA
  • Price on demand
  • This course is for anyone who manually lifts, lowers, pushes, pulls, carries, or otherwise moves, holds, or restrains loads, and can be biased to loads that are objects or people
  • There is no requirement to provide evidence of other qualifications or skills
  • Those whose employment involves manual lifting, transport of heavy or awkward loads, or the supervision of others undertaking such a task, would find this an ideal course

This course isn't designed to progress your career, however, it is intended to prevent a third of all over-three-day injuries reported each year to HSE and local authorities which are caused by manual handling.

Applications are currently suspended for this course.
